Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 1
Alarm went off sooooo early…. 4.30am to drive to Gatwick airport to meet our small team of six. In this trip we travelled with our coach Matt and our house mum, Laura. 2hr flight to Barcelona and then a good couple of hours drive in Spain to get from Barcelona to Palamos and the weather was wonderfully warm- approx. 16 deg C.
Checked in to apartments, which were only a 5 min walk to the yacht club and then picked up our Winner charter boats. Although a little tired, the rest of the day was spent on boat set up – our own sails on to booms, general boat work/prep and making sure the boats were 100% ready for training and the practice race tomorrow.
We did a MASSIVE supermarket shop for our snacks, water and general food for lunch. A challenge to get all of it back to the apartments, but we just about managed it having borrowed the trolley (and we did take the trolley back, in case you were wondering).
An early night needed now. Really excited for tomorrow as we have practice race and training. This event is the 2nd largest Optimist event in the world, after Lake Garda. This year 544 entered. Should be good fun!! :)
