Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 5
Kicked off with the same routine, plus another one hour’s postponement. The breeze had filled in from the southwest that was not forecast, but this was mainly due to the sea breeze. The race committee really wanted to get a race in today because then we could have a discard. The first group had a few general recalls before starting but the race committee did a good job of getting them off quite quickly. I was in green flight today so I was last to start. Quite good as it mean
Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 4
Forecast predicted huge high pressure system coming over us therefore bringing very light winds. It said that it was going to pick up to around 7 knots max, which would have been just enough to sail. We still had the same routine though (luckily I wasn’t woken up by the carnival this time!!) and were down by our boats by 9am. Postponement flag went up at 10am which left us sitting on the ribs on the beach, eating snacks and drinking lots to prevent us from becoming dehydrated
Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 3
Same routine as yesterday time wise, BUT got woken up at 6.30am by the carnival preparations. Some of the floats were getting ready and going around the little streets and blasted loud music and flashing colourful lights into our rooms. Just what we needed the morning before the event hey? The music continued throughout the morning as we were rigging our boats, which actually put everyone in a great mood. Event briefing at 9:30am and scheduled to launch at 10am. After a brief

Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 2
Woke up at 8am for breakfast at 8:10. Had a power breakfast made up of big bowls of porridge, lots of raisins, bananas and plenty of eggy bread. We made our own lunches for on the water, then the team met at 9am at the club. We rigged, changed and briefed and were then set up ready for a great light wind training day on the water, although we were delayed launching due to lack of wind. Had a great 2 hr training session with Matt for venue familiarisation and also focused on s

Palamos Optimist Trophy Nations Cup 2015, Spain - Day 1
Alarm went off sooooo early…. 4.30am to drive to Gatwick airport to meet our small team of six. In this trip we travelled with our coach Matt and our house mum, Laura. 2hr flight to Barcelona and then a good couple of hours drive in Spain to get from Barcelona to Palamos and the weather was wonderfully warm- approx. 16 deg C. Checked in to apartments, which were only a 5 min walk to the yacht club and then picked up our Winner charter boats. Although a little tired, the rest

National Squad Residential, Pwllheli - Day 3
Solid day on the water mainly focusing on rig set up and race starts. It was a little lighter than on Friday but it was still pretty breezy! We had wind from the North, which brought snow, sleet and a little rain so yes, it was pretty cold, but I was toastie warm!! The starting was a good opportunity to see how I was doing against the UK’s top sailors and we finished off with some great practice races. Fantastic 3 squad days and hard to believe that I was about to sign off on
